The Pewter Life Casting Process

Once you are comfortable in the surroundings and happy with your pose, your partner applies the oils. Most moulds then take less than 30 to 40 minutes to complete and remove.

The products used are natural and non-toxic and the primary moulding materials can even be used internally. In some ways the life casting process is like going to a spa for a body wrap or a mud bath.

The initial moulding stage is the most important stage, as it is from this mould that the plaster life cast will be taken. Once the mould is removed, the life casting sculpture is cast and the final plaster sculpture is hand finished and left to dry for three to four weeks and then sprayed and finished ready for the Pewter Process.

The Finished Plaster Cast is then re-moulded and cast in Pewter. This Pewter is then hand polished and lacquered to give the final piece.

Pewter Material

Our pewter sculptures are cast in a special high density resin and thermal plated with lead-free pewter. Each individual piece was originally sculpted or cast by Ken Clarke. A remould is then taken from each piece, and pewter finished casts produced which are then hand polished by skilled craftspeople and lacquered to preserve the brilliant metallic finish. These pieces are a beautiful work of art with the look, weight and cold feel of solid metal.
